Ashanti Gold SC saw their lead atop the Ghana Premier League leaderboard stymied as they were held to a goalless tie by Elmina Sharks in their Match Day 12 fixture played at the Nduom Sports Complex in Elmina on Saturday.

The hosts got off to a strong start but it was AshGold, who had the best chance early on but Joshua Tijani blasted wide from the box. The Sharks had a couple of chances to take the lead but Ibrahim Suraj saw his long ball tipped out by veteran goalie George Owu for a wasted corner kick. The Sharks followed up with a close header from Benjamin Arthur in the box that Owu pushed out, before a cross from Richard Mpong was denied entry by the goalpost in the ensuing goalmouth melee. AshGold also went close, but Appiah McCarthy saw his well-struck free kick from just outside the box fumbled and saved on the second attempt by Joseph Essam in goal for the Sharks. AshGold went forward again, but Richard Djodi’s left footed shot from around the top of the box after beating two defenders was easily gathered by Joseph Essam. Felix Addo had the best chance to put his side up before the first half ended, as a deflected shot from Ebo Mends fell right in front of him, but he tried laying a pass for a teammate instead of firing home.

Recess saw another up and down game between both sides with Ibrahim Suraj blasting wide a good chance for the opener from the top of the box, and Richard Essam doing exceptionally well to push out a header from AshGold’s Douglas Amaning for a wasted corner kick.

The tie saw the Sharks extend their unbeaten run to nine straight games for the 7th spot on 17points, while AshGold remain top on 21points.

Inter Allies continued their winning run at home with a hard-fought lone goal win over visiting Berekum Chelsea at their Tema base on Sunday, as they overcame their midweek calamitous run that saw them drop all the points after ceding the lead twice, to Dreams FC on the road.

Nigerien import, Victorien Adebayor’s 77th minute goal, a tap in from close range, was the difference maker, as the Capelli Boys held on for the win. The home side dominated proceedings throughout the entire game but were for the most part unable to penetrate the compact defense of their guests.  A first half miss from Richmond Lamptey following a nice combination between Hashmin Musah and Victorien Adabayor and a 72nd minute missed chance by Adebayor ensured that Allies could not increase the tally, while the Berekum Blues remained largely unenterprising in offence. The goal was Adebayor’s third in two straight outings.

The win saw Inter Allies boost their tally to 18 points for the 6th spot, while B. Chelsea dropped to the 12th spot on 12points.

At the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, bottommost Wa All Stars, held on to recent gains, as they played to a second successive tie on the road, this time, a 1-1 tie with the in-form and talented West Africa Football Academy SC, but painfully missed the chance to grab the winner deep into injury time.

Playing a much improved game, The Northern Blues had a good chance to go up shortly after the 30th minute mark, but Richmond Ayi in goal for WAFA was alert enough to dive to the ground to push out Mohammed Yakubu’s goal bound shot with one hand. WAFA saw a shout out for a penalty denied after Richard Danso was pulled down in the box but waved off by the referee, but they broke the stalemate two minutes later (36) with Umar Basiru slamming home from deep inside the box after a shot at goal from Richard Boateng ricocheted off a defender to him. Nafiw iddrisu should have levelled matters up for his side after being put through neatly by David Abagna, but his left footed shot went off target for a lone goal lead for the Academy Lads at the break.

Wa All Stars started the second half strongly, forcing Richmond Ayi, who made several stellar saves to come off his line for a save to deny Richard Arthur the equalizer. But All Stars could not be denied the equalizer as the referee handed them what the WAFA squad considered a dubious penalty kick that was converted by David Abagna at the 55th minute mark. With both sides pressing for the advantage, WAFA’s Charles Boateng saw his weak left footed shot from just outside the box coolly collected by goalkeeper Prosper Gbeku, while Richard Arthur saw his goal bound free kick beautifully pulled down by Ayi. And with the game inching towards a tie, and WA All Stars pressing for the winner, Richmond Ayi was shown the red card for bad tackling, with the resulting free kick from the edged of the box grazing the crossbar for what would have been the winner. But Wa All Stars had the chance to pick up the 3points, as the referee awarded them a second penalty kick deep into injury time (98) after the subbing goalie, Prince Bilson, made contact with Kingsley Effah, who stepped up for the kick and blasted one against the crossbar.

The results saw WAFA extend their unbeaten run to four straight games in a match they were heavily tipped to win. They remain fourth on 18points, while Wa All Stars remain bottommost on 7points.

Liberty Professionals continued their recent rejuvenation - two straight ties in their last two outings - with a lone goal win over visiting Karela FC at their Dansoman Carl Reindorf base for just their second home win of the season.

A 52nd minute strike from super substitute, Alex Acheampong, who came on for Skipper Simon Zibo, on his first touch of the ball following a corner kick floated into the box that saw him calmly control the ball, spun past a Karela defender and fire the ball past the goalie was the difference maker against Karela FC, who played well, but were unable to cash in on the few chances that came their way. The Scientific Soccer Lads remain 13th on 12points with Karela FC also holding on to the 3rd spot on 18points.

2018 medeama lineup op

Dreams FC were no match for Medeama SC who picked up their fifth straight home win of the season at the Tarkwa T&A Park despite the latter putting up a strong showing in the first half.

Second half goals from Kwasi Donsu (64) and Eric Kwakwa (85), who scored for the first time this season to ice the game were enough to hand the home side the full spoils. But Dreams FC will rue missed opportunities to get onto the scoring sheet that will include a feeble strike (32) strike into the hands of the Medeama goalie by Basiru Alhassan and a 60th minute flicked header from Eric Gawu that failed to connect with the target.

Medeama moved up joint second on the table, ahead of Dreams FC, who also have 20points, but lag behind in goal difference.

Techiman Eleven Wonders

And newly promoted side, Eleven Wonders, ended their two-straight game losing run, both coming on the road with a sweet 2-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs at home. Abdul Fatawu Safiu handed the Wondrous Eleven side the lead in the first half before Alex Asamoah scored in the second half to put the game further out of the reach of Dwarfs, who struggled all afternoon to make an impact. Eleven Wonders improved to the 11th spot with the win, while Dwarfs moved up to 14th spot on 9points.

And in the late game of the day, Kumasi Asante Kotoko ended their two-game skid with a hard-fought lone goal win over visiting Bechem United at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium that saw them move up to the middle of the table on 17points.

Emmanuel Gyamfi prodded the ball past Prince Asempa in goal for Bechem United at the 69th minute mark.

Bechem had their chances at goal, but Agbetime saw his dangerous header saved after 14minutes, while Hafiz Konkoni saw his second half chance on 49minutes palmed away by Felix Annan.

The loss saw Bechem drop to the 9th spot on 16points.
