Fiifi Forson|myghanalinks - Ghanaian captain, Asamoah Gyan has being shortlisted by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) for the 2014 African footballer of the year gong.

Gyan who has just won the UAE Arabian Gulf League goal king and the Asian Champions League top scorer award was shortlisted alongside present Africa Player of the Year, Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon, Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama and team mate Ahmed Musa.

Gyan missed out on the 2013 gong when he had to beat competition from Ivorian duo Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba and Nigeria’s Mikel Obi.

Gyan, Africa’s top scorer at the World Cup is the only Ghanaian named in the list of five.

The winner will be decided by votes from the head coaches and technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF.

The Glo-CAF Awards Gala night will take place on Thursday January 8, 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria.

In an unrelated development concerning another Black Stars player, dailystar.co.uk has reported than an unnamed Qatari side have bid £9.5m for Trabzonspor striker Abdul Majeed Waris.

The Ghana international is thought to be on Manchester United's radar after assistant manager Ryan Giggs travelled to Turkey to run the rule over him in a Europa League fixture.

However, the Red Devils could be beaten to Waris' signature after Trabzonspor president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu confirmed that they have received a bid from Qatar for his services.

“We have received offers for our foreign players. A €12 million (£9.5m) offer has been made for Waris,” he told Turkish television station Bugun.

The striker's agent Phil Radley recently admitted he was unaware of United's interest in his client.

"I wasn't aware of Manchester United travelling to the Europa League fixture - but Premier League interest does not surprise me," Radley told Goal.com.

"There were Premier League clubs looking at Waris in the summer, but he was unlucky at the World Cup - he picked up a thigh injury in Ghana's final warm-up game - were it not for that he would have started alongside Asamoah Gyan and then I think those clubs would have come in for him.

"Waris certainly has the qualities for the Premier League - he is very quick and strong. Clearly he is a proven goal threat, but he is also a real fighter who never gives up and will chase down lost causes and put himself in dangerous areas."

Waris, 23, joined the Turkish outfit in September and would command a transfer fee in the region of £12m.

Finally, The Ghana Football Association is expected to officially unveil Avram Grant as the newly appointed head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars on Thursday December 4.

Grant who was confirmed as new Ghana coach last week, will arrive in Accra on Tuesday night to begin his new role.

The former Chelsea and West Ham manager will hold meetings with Sports minister, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the Black Stars technical team and the management committee on Wednesday.

He will then be officially introduced at a press conference to be held at the GFA secretariat on Thursday.
