Mr. Nicol said he was moved to sponsor a borehole after seeing the various appeals for help on Facebook by Mr. Abdul-Razak Lukman, an activist within the Tolon community and Mr. Marricke K. Gane.

The fundraiser dubbed ‘The Tolon Project 27 under 27’ was quietly started on the 16th of May, with hopes of raising GHS 40,000.00 within 27 days to build at least two boreholes for the residents of Tolon, a district in the Northern Region of north Ghana, whose residents depend on untreated water from the Tolon Dam for all their water needs.

According to Mr. Lukman, the grand gesture and support by Mr. Nicol will surely impact the lives of residents and workers in the district.

He said that there is no better way of describing the gesture than to say that it would revive the rebirth of learning and other socioeconomic and health challenges that the people in the district are facing.

He added that many residents of the community took time away from their busy schedules to assist the team in whatever way possible to get the first borehole built.

He described the efforts of the locals as a step in the right direction as they are the owners of the project and involving them is a way of sustaining the project when completed.

Mr. Lukman was also thankful to the community elders for their involvement and help with building the first borehole.

The organizers say they are still committed to building two boreholes for the community.

Strict and honest accounting continues with funds received being published by the team on Facebook. At last check, a total of GHS 18, 678.00 had been raised.

The fund, meanwhile, continues to receive donations with donors being urged to send directly through Mobile Money, popularly known as MoMo, via 024-244-3937 or Stanbic Account number – 9040006968311.

Ghanaians in the Diaspora are being urged to use WAVE or REMITLY to send in their contributions.

The first borehole is almost completed and for now, it continues to receive finishing touches, after which it will be handed over to the community for use.
