The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has discredited the assertion that he is in politics because of the number of followers he has on Social Media.

He disclosed to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi TV's 'Face To Face' programme that he presently has 5.1 million followers on Social Media.

He, however, noted that “Social Media can fool you".

He opined that he does not think he would be voted for by his followers on Social Media just because he is contesting for a political position, adding that it is about doing things on the ground to positively affect them to see his good works and recommend him to be given the nod.

Asked whether he commercializes his followers, he responded that he does not. He maintained that it is to relate to his fans.

He also mentioned that some brands approach him because of his huge following and explained that having such a huge following is akin to owning a television station because if he posts a video, it may have about 400,000 views.

John Dumelo made it known that he decided to join politics in 2016. He voiced out that he started active politics in 2012 when he campaigned for the NDC. According to him, he did it out of genuine love.

Also, he espoused those former presidents John Evans Atta Mills, John Dramani Mahama and the NDC as a party attracted him to join the party.

Queried whether he was not concerned associating his brand with the NDC when the party was tagged as being corrupt, he answered that he was not bothered because the fact that the party was accused of being corrupt did not mean it was true.

John Dumelo has starred in countless Ghanaian movies and collaborated with Nigerian actors on severa movie projects.

Some of the movies he has starred in are Ties That Bind, 4Play, A Northern Affair, and Mirror of Life.
